Professional and personal data on teachers is used to populate the Register of Teachers as is provided for under section 29 of the Teaching Council Act. The Register is the list of all currently registered teachers who are permitted to teach in Ministerially recognised schools. The data is used to generate statistical data on the cohort of teachers in Ireland.
